Again, if we want to refer to an individual item in the tuple, we use the same indexing format as in Lists. For example, to select Saturday – which is at index 6– we enter the command:
REMEMBER: The indexing of items in both Lists and Tuples starts at 0. Simply put, the index is one number less than the position of your item – so the index of item number 100 is: 100 – 1 = 99
What are Dictionaries
Dictionaries, also called Maps or dicts, are just a collection of Lists or Tuples. They offer a lot of flexibility in how we store our values – we will talk about this later. Dictionaries consist of keys and a corresponding value. Do you remember the age problem we solved earlier? It was pretty messed up, right?
We can solve the same problem in a more organized way where we store our friends’ names, ages, and their games in one variable. In fact, there is nothing wrong with using nested lists like names_and_ages variable we created, but what if you had over 200 friends? You would need to calculate the index of the friend you want each time – which can be very tiresome.
Let us look at how we create dictionaries in Python – Pay attention to the syntax because it is very important. It may look scary though.
